I don't believe students ever come to class 'prepared to learn' without coaching techniques. One of my most stimulating classes in Adult Ed was the Master Student Program with tips from students on how to deal with the problems they faced actually taught as a course.
Educators, writers and journalists all have evolved tools and common intel they share to help things along. I use del.icio.us and my weblog as a search index for discovery and share links. Google Reader is another transfer site, along with Furl,StumbleUpon, etc. We all have blogrolls on our websites.
That was basically what my impromptu blogging project started from : I didn't know my way about online nor what questions to ask nor which resources were available - and figured many others were in the same boat.
