A “novel” wiki

Here’s an excellent example of a wiki created at Woodward Academy for the study of a  novel, Hannalee. (this is courtesy of Weblogg-ed where I always find fascinating tips!)

You can see how the sidebar pages are organized so that they are information aids(like tours and historical information) to support the study of the novel.

Check out some of the sidebar pages–The students created artwork for the idioms and figures of speech page, played the piano to illustrate a song of the period and recorded that for the “Aura Lee” page, wrote summaries of the chapters, etc.    And this was a fifth grade class!

To see what tools they used, read more here.

Another site, Using Wikis in Education, gives many detailed examples of how colleges and high schools are using wikis in their courses.  College classes are beginning to utilize wikis a great deal to share course content and to permit students to collaborate.

  1. By the way, I should point out that I know of a couple of teachers here using wikis for class projects, so there are some teachers you can talk to see how they used them.

AP Government is working on one right now for a project on Major Acts of Congress, and English 4 seniors completed one earlier this fall on college essay tips.

The elementary librarians are using a wiki for students to post reviews of the Bluebonnet books.

If others of you are wikiing, share your examples!
